Girls' Night Strikes Again....

Actually, the last two nights were girls' night. Hmm. Anyway, last night my friend Crystal, from university (I said university, Dena! Woot!) and I went to my friend Amanda's (also from university) Spring Show. Amanda is a Spanish teacher and Drill Team (dance team for those of you not from these here parts) director at a high school about 40 minutes from here. Every year they have the big Spring Show, and I do mean BIG SPRING SHOW. The town is small, but I think everyone and their uncle show up for the Spring Show. The girls do about 12 routines, there are singers that do 3-4 numbers in between routines, there's always a band for intermission, and there's even a Master of Ceremonies (Randy...every year). Amanda and her mom and sister are psychos for a few months before the show...culminating with ultimate psychosis in the week prior, but it always turns out great.

Crystal came over to meet me at our new house and get the tour, and then I drove us to Bonham for the show. We didn't get lost!! That's a first. Crystal and I are really good at getting lost, but luckily we're also good at getting unlost. We made a run to Amanda's house to pick up our tickets from her mailbox, and then we went to the auditorium. Her mom had roped off seats for us (VIP treatment), and we enjoyed the show very much.

Amanda is the cutest thing since toast. She's a dancer....she's been clogging for most of her lifetime, and she took dance lessons for years. Now she coaches the drill team and she teaches at a local dance school. I think she's on the state clogging team or something equally impressive. Anyway, they had a performance to The Devil Went Down to Georgia (thank you Charlie Daniels), and the girls dressed up as Johnny, and Amanda was the devil. We missed it a few years ago when we first went to the show (got severely lost that year), but this year the theme was "War Dancer Reruns" so we got to see it again. So cuuuute! And Amanda is so good.

The show went off without a hitch, and then we grabbed meatball subs at Subway (messyyy!), and went back to Amanda's house for a girly chat. As usual we didn't get out of there until the early morning hours.

Overall, a very fulfilling evening of catching up and top-notch Amanda-provided entertainment. Dance on sista!

Emotionally stunted fish and Friday indulgences....

Friday is my favorite day of the week because I don't have to work. In fact, I don't even have to think about work until Sunday sometime...and, actually, sometimes I don't even think about it until Monday. Anyhoo, Friday is the beginning of my weekend. Does that mean I get to lay around like a sloth? Nope, not so much.

Today, the biggest "to-do" on my list is to clean my fish tank. I've been putting it off and putting it off, and now I have a really nice fish tank with a not-so-nice green glow. The emotionally stunted part of the title of this pointless entry refers to my fish. My fish are shy and/or emotionally scarred. The tank has two frothy plastic plants in the back, a nice big rock in the middle, and the fish stay in the plants and behind the rock. It looks like I have an empty fish tank gracing my bedroom because one only sees the fish if one twists their body into a grotesque, most unpleasant position to peer behind the rock and into the plants. I refer to my fish as "the FB's" (finned babies). It's just too bad I never see them. Well, unless it's feeding time and then they turn into piranhas.

On a lighter-than-cleaning-algae note, Friday is also my favorite day of the week because it's my "eat anything I want" day. When I'm dieting I always allot myself one day of the week when I can eat anything I want. It keeps me from losing my mind and ditching the diet in favor of flavor. So what's on the menu you ask???

1) Exercise....first thing this morning (right after I get my bootay offline).

2) Not sure about lunch....probably something with a side of mac & cheese.
3) A popcorn snack at some point.
4) Dinner at the little "greasey spoon" cafe down the street. I think fried cajun catfish will be my drug of choice tonight with some fries on the side.
5) DESSERT!!! Cheesecake to be exact.

And tomorrow it's back to lettuce and eggs. Whee!

Blog horn blowin'.....

The blog horn is back to advertise another interesting blog.

Snarkspot, the blog of author Jennifer Weiner.

I don't care if you've read her books: Good in Bed, In Her Shoes, or Little Earthquakes. You still MUST check out her blog. She's hilarious, sarcastic, hip, happenin', goofy. I like to think her blog is reflective of what mine would be if I had a much more interesting life.

Here's a snippet that I found quite amusing in all its grossness. Her stories about her daughter are a rip-roaring good time.....

Thursday night, at around midnight, I heard Lucy calling my name."Mama!" she called."Mama! Mamacita!"

I stuck my head into her room to find she'd thrown up -- all over the crib, all over herself, all over her blanket and sheets.

"Oh, no!" I said.

"Oh, Jesus!" said Lu.

We got her cleaned off, changed her into fresh pajamas, put fresh sheets on the bed, and then -- "Poo coming!" Lucy moaned, and threw up again all over everything.

I WANT SUGAR!!!!

I am on week 2 of my diet and I WANT SUGAR, NOWWWW!!!! I'm doing a somewhat low-carb thing. Basically, I'm just trying to cut back on sugar in general and anything white (bread, rice, pasta, etc.). I had a hamburger for lunch...legal: meat, lettuce, onion, mayo, cheese; illegal: bread. Now, I hadn't had ANYTHING to eat today by the time lunch rolled around, and I am allowed to eat *some* carbs or my brain would shrivel uplike a cumquat on a windowsill, so I ate the bun included. Now, I just want gooey sticky chocolatey blissfully sexually wonderful sweets. I saw a commercial for something...Kool Whip? Chips Ahoy? Anyway, they made this chocolatey cake thing where you put a chocolate chip cookie in the bottom of the muffin tin and then cover it with chocolate cake mix. It makes this delectable little muffin/cake concotion with a gooey middle. And then they put Kool Whip on top. Bastards.

Off to drink a Diet Coke.

I'm downright pissy......

Yes, you heard me. I'm downright pissy today. A few contributing factors:

1) Last night's lack of sleep. I would lay there and the wheels would start churning. Keep in mind, when I was upright.....no wheels...when I got horizontal, lots and lots of wheels.

2) Money is a scarcity.

3) They moved my morning classes out of their usual room. There's a continuing ed. class taking over my morning classroom because, according to one of the secretaries, "You're not on the schedule." Well fuck me! According to the schedules of all the students we're on the schedule for that room!

Given, most of these are small potatoes, but when you're sleep deprived everything seems like a land mine. Thank goodness today is not my workout day. I would probably keel over in the street or beat up a neighbor. I was even irritable when my mom tried to give me the cell phone to carry this morning. Oy!

I have to go teach a lab/class combo from 11:-1 and then a reading class from 1-2:15. Can we say quiet, independent work?? I'll be reading The Robber Bride under the podium.

**Note: A few minutes ago I got moved back to my regular classroom. *silent yay*

Take a stab?

Anyone care to venture a guess why I chose this blog address??

Sleeplessness....

I can't sleep, so I choose to ramble. I've been laying here for over and hour and I keep replaying the inevitable in my head. We won't go into that....

Some thoughts frolicking at the edge of my consciousness:

*I've found a new favorite magazine. Utne. It's a collection of reprinted articles from independent press, books, etc. Really interesting. This month's issue deals largely with religion and our ideas of faith. They have a website, but so far it's not updated for this month.

http://www.utne.com

*I need to read The Robber Bridegroom. I've never read the tale, and I'm sure The Robber Bride would be a richer experience if I read the tale.

*Miranda Lambert is quite possibly the most annoying country singer in America. I think she won Nashville Star the last time around (don't watch it). She's adorable....good voice...but her pronunciation is DREADFUL. We're not talking Leann Rimes dreadful, but even her twang has twang. Listen to the song Me and Charlie Talking and you'll understand.

*I bought Evanescence's new CD/DVD combo a week or so ago. Their cover of Korn's Thoughtless gives me chills.

*Boys Stink. Throw rocks at them. (My compliments to the journal at Hastings with this printed smack-dab on the front.)

*I'm way overdue for a new hair color.

My illustrious return....

I had a blog before...it died...and now I'm back. You may be wondering why, and to that I must simply say, "I missed it." I like the feeling of writing something every day even if it's drivel. I don't do so well keeping up with an actual written journal. I find that it turns into one big maudlin mess....dictated mostly by the goings-on (or lack of) in my love life, and that's not what I want my legacy to be! I tend to put more thought into my blogging. Not to mention, my hands don't get tired typing like they do writing.

What's been going on with me?

1) ***

2) The great job continues. I have another "star" student this semester that fills my day with unexpected humorous moments and absolute revulsion. This one is a recovering drug addict with bipolar disorder. Let the games begin. Expect many, many stories about this one.

3) Moved to a new pad (not maxi). Love it.

4) Getting geared up for graduate school! Yeehaw!

These days I fill my time by working, still reading a TON, and I'm getting back into the whole fitness thing. For the first time in my life it's actually for ME and not some guy. I'm eating right, I go jogging every morning, and sometimes at night, too. I've been on a steady schedule for 2+ weeks, and so far I feel great.

It's good to be back. Now maybe some of my readers will come back to me. I miss you!
