Estella's Up, and Some News I Forgot!

Want your very own autographed copy of Cathleen Schine's newest novel, The New Yorkers? Want to read interviews with Sara Zarr and Mary Doria Russell? Want to peruse some fantastic articles and reviews?! Say no more. Just go check out the March issue of Estella's Revenge. It's got a new look, too.

And I totally forgot to mention it earlier, but I got accepted to a swanky international conference on children's literature. It's in June (or July? Gotta look at my registration again). Anyway, it's in Illinois, hosted by the PhD program I bowed out of. I'm kind of surprised I got in. But I'm looking forward to it very very much.

  4. Thanks, Nik, Carl, Iliana and Heather. I was afraid I lost this paper in the motherboard crash, so it's a relief to know, now that I'm accepted, that I do have a copy to work from!

  5. Yay on the children's lit conference! That should be a lot of fun. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's in June when it might be a bit cooler than July. I'm hoping to get to Chicago sometime this summer for baseball, art museums, hot dogs and Jazz. We'll see.

Estella's looks great! I'm honored to be included. Thanks again.

  6. This conference on children's literature sounds so exciting! As a native Illinoisian, I wonder where you'll be heading. If you don't want to share, will you at least share the details of the conference upon your return? I'm an avid reader of children's literature, being a teacher of 24 years, and it's so fun to see what's being discussed. Wait, that would make me a teacher when you were...three? :)

  10. Congratulations on the conference. If you've already got the paper written, you won't have the 'joy' of trying to write the thing at the last minute. You don't know what you're missing.

  11. Andi--If you're at ISU in July, come up to Chicago and I'll host another blogger night. It would be fun to meet.

  12. Les, it looks like it'll be a good time. Well, as much as academic papers can be a good time. I suspect there will be much drinking with S. and her colleagues in the down time. lol

LOL, Bellezza! Thanks for stopping in. I'm going to be in Bloomington for the conference (hosted by ISU). I will certainly share the latest goings-on in children's lit upon my return. I'm also the chairperson for the 2008 South-Central Modern Language Association children's lit. section. Our conference is in San Antonio in November, and I'm excited about that. The papers I've read so far are great!

Funky, I tried my damndest to get into the International Comic Arts Festival in DC last year. They only take 18 presenters, and they had 60 submissions. It came down to double tie-break, but I lost out. Blah. Close, though! I may try again for next year, and we'll paint the town!

Stu, been there and done that! Fortunately the majority of this one is written, but I do sort of need to refocus it for the presentation. Shouldn't be too much work.

    Sounds good to me, Lu!
