The Biggest Announcement Here...Like EVER!

Chuck is in New York for a week and a half, so what better time to take a pregnancy test here in Dallas and find out it's positive?! Yeah, our timing is awesome.

Obviously this pregnancy thing is VERY NEW, but I'm not even remotely superstitious, so I'm shouting it from the rooftops in hopes that nothing happens and I'm not hugely heartbroken.

As of now we're all really excited and more than a little bit dazed, and I'm ready to start shopping for awesome book-themed baby stuff if such wonderments exist at all.

By my calculations, our monkey will be here in April or May, and I don't know if we'll find out the sex or not. I do know, our monkey's middle name will be Eris, an odd family name on my side and a heads up to both my mom and my grandfather--two of the MOST important people in my life ever.

Note: I've changed the original due date typo from August (gah!) to April or May. Let's hope my child is more adept at math than Mom-the-english-professor. Hmmphf!

Excitement all around! If you know any good pregnancy books, let me know! I've already checked out Raising Baby Green and some others to be reported on soon.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!! And do you mean to say the monkey will be here in April, rather than August? I'm no baby expert, but 12 months of gestation seems long to me. I'm thinking you're a little excited?? :-)

  2. Congratulations! I was wondering the same thing as Lezlie - it was either going to be the shortest or longest pregnancy in history!

  4. OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!!!!!!! Yayyyyyyyy!!!! Congratulations Andi. I am so happy for you. Definitely read The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy. It's a good one!

Also, for my shower we asked everyone to bring a book instead of a card with their gifts to help start the baby's library. Thought this would be a good idea for you too!!

Oh I'm so excited for you. You're gonna be a great mom!

  7. Like I said on Twitter- Congrats! lol, yeah I agree with the 1st 2 ladies, by next August you'd be so tired of being pregnant.

  13. LOL, my brain has already started to go, Lezlie. Obviously. I blame it on the TX heat.

    LOL, Bermudaonion!

    Thanks, Ophelia-dahling!

Thank you, Funky! I knew I could depend on you for good baby book advice. OMG, and that's an AWESOME baby shower idea! So cool!

LMAO, Amanda! Thank you, girl. I love baby gifts already!

    Thanks, Amy and Madeleine!

LMAO, Chris! And it's an especially funny typo since I'm SOOO GLAD I'm not going to be preggo during this gawd awful TX summer.

    Thank you, Stephers!

Seachanges, I'm never going to live that typo down am I?

  14. Congratulations, Andi! And one of the best books is What to Expect When You are Expecting. It covers everything. I used it for my last two pregnancies. Oh this is exciting!

  15. The brain is definitely the first to go... you won't see it again for about 18 years LOL

Congratulations!!! And I agree, What to Expect When You're Expecting (and the subsequent volumes about the baby and toddler years) are excellent. Course, back in my day, we still relied on Doctor Spock!

  16. Congratulations! SO exciting! What was his reaction to the phone call??

Have to dissent on What to Expect, I found it to be full of DANGER DANGER DANGER!! that just freaked me out.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Congrats! This is so exciting! Just think of all the books you can buy "for the baby", lol! And I loved What to Expect.

    ReplyDelete
  18. So thrilled for you!!! You're gonna have a big ole family, aren't you? LOL

What to Expect When You're Expecting is supposed to be great. I read a lot of books about the Bradbury childbirth method, the second time, but I gave them all to my SIL.

  19. Congratulations! Y'all are in my prayers - that's so wonderful!

  20. WOW! This is exciting! More monkeys to play with woohoo! I am happy for you and Chuck. Now when your mother is putting together a family tree she does not have to put The End on your branch, haha.
Ok, as for the book thing...I found most of them completely useless; however, it has been many moons since I had a baby and perhaps the books have improved since my day? I got the worst advice from so many people, including my mother. And the books were not much better. When I was expecting my first child, somehow I got a hold of a nursing book (meaning a medical nurse) on pregnancy and delivery and all that stuff, and it would say things like "during labor a woman may feel some discomfort"...gee, ya think?
But again, I admit that there is the possibility that the books may have improved, I don't know, I did not read them. I decided to go by my instincts. I also figured that babies are people, just smaller.
Nonetheless, I feel that the best advice I could give to you is to watch Bill Cosby Himself and I will let that speak for itself.

  21. Congratulations! That's fantastic news!

  22. Congratulations! I hope all goes very well.

  23. Oh how exciting! Congratulations to all of you! :) I found I was pregnant with my first when N was away on a business trip as well (Denmark, I think? Possibly Sweden) And he hated that he wasn't there with me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Congratulations that is excellent news!!!! I hope everything goes smoothly and there are no bumps along the way. Keep us posted on how you are getting along. Who needs maths anyway ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats Andi!!! How wonderful!!! I agree, who needs that math. Ethan better get his math from his daddy lol. He's 21 months old now, but when he was 16 months I was calculating 12 months LOL
    How exciting?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh my gosh, I still can't believe it. I'm going to be an Auntie! LOL I am so, so, so happy for you Andi!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yay-frickin'-hooray for you!!! Congrats, that is so awesome!!! I'm so happy for you both.

And now I can't get images of the beginning of Juno out of my head.

    :)

  28. Congratulations to you and Chuck!

Regarding the books - check a bunch out of before buying. (And I know people who love and people who LOATHE What to Expect. I think it's an either or thing.)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Excellent! Congratulations! I'll have to knit a little giftie for the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congrats, Andi! May your pregnancy be easy... :-)(The best advice I got was to not sweat the self-help books and follow your instincts.)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congratulations!!!So exciting! What a lucky kid! Enjoy every bit of everything (well, not morning sickness) & try to write stuff down when you can. Memory is the first to go... Sending you many good wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. WOW! Congrats to you both! I guess this might cut into your reading...;-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hope you have an easy easy pregnancy and a happy, healthy baby!

  36. Thanks, Susan! Another positive for What to Expect...

LOL, Becca! That's what I keep telling Chuck. He thought I was moody before I got pregnant. HA!

Lisa, I'll tell that story in an upcoming post. hehehehe As for What to Expect...I'm very weary of DANGER books. I'm a bit of an overreactor anyway, so I don't need any help in that department. I'm reading a very laid back, go-with-your-instincts but with some medical knowledge thrown in. Just the right fit so far.

Tammy, I think I should probably register at Barnes & Noble "for the baby." Don't you?! lol

Thanks, Bookfool! A big family indeed. We're growing like weeds around here!

Thanks so much Jenny and Troubadour!

Thanks, Fem! So far the only book I've tackled seems realistic and not too full of DANGER. A nice balance for a complete freaker outer like myself. I will definitely revisit the wisdom of Bill Cosby.

    Thank you Mariel and Ann!

Michelle, it sucks doens't it! I would much rather him be here, but it'll be a nice homecoming when he gets back.

  37. Rhinoa, HERE HERE to "who needs math!" lol I probably won't say that in month 9. I'll be keeping tabs on the minutes at that point.

Thanks, Kristina! I can't believe Ethan is already 21 months. Holy crap!

    Thanks, Anna!

Heatheroo, YES you are going to be the best auntie EVER! Is it too much to ask to fly you in for my baby shower?? LOL I feel an OWL theme coming on!

Thank you, Carl! And I really need to watch Juno now. I think I stuck it in a book when it came from Netflix, and I haven't seen it since! Oy!

Sassy, I'm all about checking them out before investing. I grabbed the three that looked 1) the least hokey and 2) the least scary when I went to the 'brary the other day.

Awww, I would love that KnittingReader!

Amen, Melissa! My first instinct is to read up, but at the same time, I don't want to be so overloaded that I can't enjoy this.

Great tip, DS! I really need to start journaling again so I have a chronicle of everything. No morning sickness so far, but I have WICKED heartburn. Ugg!

Tara, I fear you're exactly right. I better read while I can!

Thank you so much Mel, Stephanie, and Suzz! It's great to see you, Suzz! It's been too long!

  44. Congratulations Andi!! Eris is such a beautiful name. As soon as we found out I was preggers, the middle names were decided asap - it's the first names we were pretty late with :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks so much, Dennis and Stephanie!

Carrie, I have The Girlfriends Guide all ready to go! It looks hilarious.

    No kidding, Suzz! LOL

Thanks so much, Fence and Melanie!

Joanne, I fear we'll be in the same boat with the first names. Chuck and I decided we'll call out names until the baby poops. The poopworthy name will be the winner.
