Saturday Night Soiree

Good evening, lovelies!!! Baby Greyson is off to his G-Mama's house for the night, and I'm left with a fridge full of beer and a pile of books. Sounds like a Saturday night soiree, right?

It has been one hell of a week; one of my full-time faculty resigned leaving five classes to cover, the Rockets did some irresponsible kid screw-uppery, and in general, I'm just beat. I spent most of my daylight hours playing with G and attempting to clean the house a bit while Chuck was in his Drawing II class.

Tonight, the lineup is all about the books (and maybe a rogue episode of What Not to Wear). My Nook is charging, and when it's done I'll likely get right back to The Woman in White. I've been reading it for far too long. I really like the story, but the Google Books copy I downloaded for free is not great. Lots of misspellings--I assume because it was scanned with a text recognition program and left as-is.

I'm also salivating over Siri Hustvedt's new novel The Summer Without Men, but I'm trying my best to hold off and read the other books I have lined up first. Oh fickle book lover is me!

So what are you doing this weekend? Any special Saturday night plans?

  1. Wow, after a week like that I'd be hitting the beer too! Yipes. Enjoy your night!

As for me, my Saturday night is involving updating my resume and kick-starting my Montana job search...GULP! Good times...pass me a beer, eh?

  2. I would sub wine for beer, but other than that, good stuff.

One of our full-time faculty was promoted to division chair at the beginning of fall semester. I ended up teaching seven classes. It was hell. Never ever again. Five is already too much for a writing instructor.

  3. Jen, good luck with the Montana job search! Any kind of job search makes my butt pucker a bit. Scary stuff. Passing beer.

No problem, Trisha. Red or white??? And that does sound like hell. Ugg!

  9. Beer & Books. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a Saturday night! We hung out with some friends after gorging ourselves on Paella and wine. I think I'll have to hit the treadmill long and hard this afternoon. Thank goodness I can catch up on my blog-hopping (on my iPad) while I walk.

Sorry you had such a sucky week. Hope February brings you smoother sailing around work & home.

  10. Sounds like a perfect evening! Including What Not to Wear -- I am shamefully addicted to that show, and whenever I go shopping I can hear Clinton and Stacy's voices in my head going "This detailing accentuates the narrowest part of you," etc.

(My roommate used to work at the coffee shop where Stacy London got coffee, and she said she was a big jerk. She said she demanded half a cup of cold cream in her coffee and then complained if the coffee wasn't piping hot, and also that she bought chocolate biscuits to feed to her dogs.)

  11. I think you definitely deserved some entertainment after that week! Are you enjoying The Woman in White? It is pretty long but I loved it.

We had a good Saturday - out to dinner with friends. Of course now it's like mad rush to prepare for the week ahead. I think I need a nap :)
