Pinning and DOING in May!

May marks another round of Pin It and Do It hosted by the effervescent and kickass, Trish of Love, Laughter and a Touch of Insanity. Pinterest went by the wayside in April because it was just, well, overwhelming. All of April was overwhelming. I typically use the later hours of my workday to pin (if time allows) because my brain is generally leaking out my left ear at that point. Sadly, I was too dang busy to leak in April.

So now I'm back in it to win it at the "Pinterested" level with a commitment to complete 4-7 pins. So my first completed pin came early in the month when I discovered SUGAR ANTS IN MY KITCHEN. I was so not a happy camper. Those little effers can sneak in anywhere, and they made their happy little trail right down from my kitchen window to my counters.

I was looking for an immediate and effective way to fight off the little buggers, so of course I turned to Pinterest and found these easy, organic tips. In addition to cleaning off my countertops, stashing any cluttery stuff that impeded my view, wiping the whole place down with vinegar, and sweeping/mopping, I also put out a BIG ASS PLATE OF CINNAMON. It was big enough to warrant all caps. Seriously.

The next day: far fewer ants. There were a few stragglers, but not nearly the bunch I'd had before. Since then, I've put out good ole fashioned bait traps, but I'm leaving the cinnamon for its effectiveness, too.

Pins on my horizon:

What are you pinning and doing these days?

    1. Patti, I keep a "To Do Soon" board that helps me focus on what I really want to complete in a semi-timely manner. And I keep a "Completed Pins" board to help motivate me to do more! It helps. :)

  2. What a great way to deal with ants - we get them periodically and I have tried all kinds of things, trying to avoid toxic chemicals. I'm trying some new recipes this month, too.

    1. Lisa, they're little buggers, aren't they?? The cinnamon seems to have played out a bit, so I replaced it with basil last night. We'll see how that goes!

  3. Vinegar! I just poured a LOT of it in my garden. Suddenly had an infestation! Ugh!

I need to get on the pins I have picked. I'm making one tonight. Shrimp Scampi over Linguini. YUM.

    1. Vinegar in your garden?? Doesn't it kill ALL the things? lol

      And the scampi sounds awesome!

    2. So far, no! I kept it away from the plants. The ants dug a big ole hole right at the edge. The bastards.

  4. Yum! Those all look good. Some months I do really well participating in Trish's Pinterest challenge. Others, like this one, I fail horribly. Oh well, I still get good ideas of stuff to do from other's posts!

    1. Melissa, same here! I have to get myself organized on the front end if I have any hopes of succeeding. Have done a little better job this month than the last time around.

  5. That soup looks delicious! Even though it's getting hot around here, I still like soup.

    1. I thought so too, Beth! I went searching for a sausage recipe when I realized my freezer stock was getting low and that was really the only meat on hand. Not that I have to have meat all the time, but I wasn't in the mood for anything breakfasty at the time, and I wanted to see if I could find any other recipes that used sausage. This one caught my eye immediately. I think I'm gonna whip it up in the crock pot one day while I'm gone to work and add the pasta in the last 30 minutes of cooking. I'll split up the leftovers to freeze and be set with work lunches for a while!
