The Sunday Salon - Reading Update

February turned into a surprisingly good reading month. I didn't have my hopes set very high because of STUFF, but that shows what I know. The highlights of the month were definitely my Comics February reading and finishing up The Woman in White Readalong.

So far I've reviewed Heaven is For Real, The Woman in White (vlog), Chew and Saga. I'm excited to share my thoughts on Labor Day and Boy, Snow, Bird. Even though I had some issues with both of these novels, sometimes the ones with issues are the best for discussion.

March is off to a screaming start with...

Saga, volume 2 is no big surprise since I liked the first book so much. Other Voices, Other Rooms is something of a wild card pick. I just happened to snap it up off of my TBR Challenge pile, and so far it seems like just the thing! The writing is lovely and the Southern gothic feel is sublime.

What are you reading this weekend? I hope March is off to a great start!

  1. Really excited to hear your thoughts on the other two! I read Labor Day so long ago I can barely remember why I liked it and I'm so curious about what changed your mind at the end of Boy, Snow, Bird!

  4. You had a great February. I could read anything Capote wrote, I think. Now I need to see what you thought of Boy, Snow, Bird.

    Here's my Sunday Salon.

  5. I tried the first Saga, but I must be getting old because it was too explicit for me. Or maybe I'm just into reading crime fiction (yeah, no bad language there ;) ) . Maybe I like to imagine the violence and not see it so...well...vividly in color.

  6. I'm reading I Shall Be Near to You and hope to finish up Queen & Country. I just read an interesting interview with Helen Oyeyemi this morning that really makes me want to read Boy, Snow, Bird very soon!

  7. I'm reading Roomies - it's kind of silly but I'm really enjoying it.

  8. You had a great month, didn't you?! I've just started On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle, which Bookfool/Nancy was so kind to send to me a few months ago. Nan has raved about this series for a long time, so I decided it was time to curl up with a cup of joe and read this first installment. That said, I'm going to save it for work breaks and dust off my copy of East of Eden to read with Trish. It's been on my shelf for far too long and her recent post has given me the nudge to quit stalling and start reading! Wish me luck!

  9. I'm finishing up The Golem and the Jinni this weekend, and then I have a bunch of review books I need to get to. Can't wait to hear what you thought of Boy, Snow, Bird! I loved it but had some issues with the ending.

  11. I loved Woman in White! Will definitely read it again some day. Looking forward to your thoughts on Other Voices, Other Rooms. I liked it so much. That Southern Gothic atmosphere is one of my favorites to read. As for my reading, I just started Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac.

  14. My start to March has been very unfocused as I started 13 Reasons Why, Fardorougha the Miser, Cinderella Ate My Daughter, and Reading Like a Writer. I can't seem to focus. :)
