We Were Liars by e. lockhart

Heather sent me a copy of We Were Liars and simply said, "Read it now, before it gets too hyped up or spoiled for you. DEAR. Drop everything and read. It."

When she does that, I know she's serious. Even though I had minimal interest in We Were Liars at the time, I did as commanded and was rewarded heartily by a kickass plot, elegant writing, and a book that left me pleasantly surprised and pondering.

And I'm not going to tell you anything else because I refuse to spoil.

READ IT!

What? You want a synopsis at least? Ok, ok.

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

  3. I was surprised to find out that this is a YA book. I'm not going to let my hatred of YA get in my way of this one though. I must read it and soon.

    1. Me too! I've seen it on enough non-YA blogs that it got my attention.

  4. I was so pleasantly surprised by this one, too. And there's really no way to review this without spoiling, so telling people to just read it is a best bet :)

  10. I'm on the waiting list at the library - can't wait to get it. I've read Dramarama by E Lockhart and it is fantastic. I would say it is one of my favorite YA books ever.

  12. I keep urging people to read it too, in fact I've told my teen son he will be reading it this summer. I'm looking forward to talking about it with others who've read it.

  14. Haha! I loved Liars too and it was the hardest review to write because I felt like I couldn't write anything other than "trust me". And, I was always taught never to trust anyone who says "trust me". Glad you enjoyed it!

    1. Yes!!! I hate doing that to people, but JUST TRUST ME! I never ask that of people! lol

  16. Ok, ok! You've convinced me to add it to my list. :) I'm not worried about the hype, though, since I probably won't get to it until later this year. I hit a slump just before heading out to Oregon and have hardly read a thing since our return. As soon as I finish The Girl You Left Behind, I want to read All the Light We Cannot See, as well as Boys in the Boat. Those should keep me busy for a few weeks.

    Have a great weekend, Andi!

    1. I'm sure you had your hands full with other fun things while you were in Oregon. Sounds like you have lots of good books on the horizon when you're back in the groove!

  17. Oh Andi, come on! I have a pile! And I sooo want to read this and now I really feel I need to read it next! Fine, fine, you talked me into it with your "non review."

  18. This probably isn't a book I would pick up on my own, but I've seen it recommended by so many people with awesome taste! I think I actually do need to read it!

    1. It wasn't one I would normally pick up either, but Shannon's review and Heather's insistence pushed me over the edge. Glad I read it!

  19. This is one I've skipped over and now I'm rethinking that. Gah!!!! How can such a vague non-review change my mind?! You and your klout (hahahaha *evil laugh*). And Heather's, too!

By the way, when did the layout change occur? I love it, it's pretty!!

    1. LOL! I want to talk about it if/when you finish it! Layout change happened last Friday. I started fiddling and the next thing I knew...new layout!

  21. LOL! Your review is about as short and sweet as mine. It is definitely one of those books in which anything you say about it will spoil the story. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
