A Weekly Reading Recap!

I still have a wicked case of reading schizophrenia, y'all. I bounce around from one book to another, but I still manage to finish some along the way.

This past week I finished:

Horrorstor, by Grady Hendrix. This is an odd book...a horror story set inside an IKEA knock-off! It's an oddly ominous setting. Can't wait to review this one for you guys!

The Shadow Hero, by Gene Luen Yang, is another win for Yang. You already know I adored American Born Chinese and Boxers and Saints. Review will be up this week!

I'm doing a buddy read of Cranford, by Elizabeth Gaskell, with several lovely ladies on #BookTube. I admit, I'm struggling with this little book because it's such a quiet novel of English life. But I shall finish! Hopefully soon!

I'm also slowly working my way through East of Eden. So far, so good!

I added the following (plus some...see video) to this week's #BookTubeaThon TBR pool, so wish me luck!

Finally, you can see my BookTubeaThon TBR video right here!

  1. I've been bouncing a lot too, but still finished a couple of books this week. I just finished Lydia Netzer's new book. It was weirder than I thought it was going to be, but in a good way, I think. I'm still pondering.

    1. Good for you! I've been finishing some shorter stuff. It's all good as long as I'm making progress. I'm really looking forward to Netzer's book. I like weird, but I'm wondering if it'll go too far for me?

  2. I can't bounce...I'm a monogamous reader mostly. Very rarely, I read TWO books. It's just not in my upbringing, I guess. :)

    1. I usually am, but I just can't get settled this year for some reason.

  3. So nice to see you on videos. It makes everything so much more real. :) I know how you feel: I struggle to finish any book because I keep on beginning to read in other books and now I'm reading like 352379257912 books at the same time. Good luck with the challenges! PS: you're so prettyyyy.

    1. Thanks, Wendy! We're definitely in the same boat. I need to stop hopping from one book to another!

  4. The IKEA like setting intrigues me because I always feel like a rat in a maze when I'm in one.

  5. I love your videos! :) Man, you're brave to try to tackle the Steinbeck again.

I just requested Horrorstor... horror isn't normally my thing (but I don't hate it) and this sounded so crazy cool!

    1. Awww, thank ya, Monika! I'm digging East of Eden, for sure. It's just so long and I'm just so indecisive. lol

I hope you get Horrorstor! It was gimmicky but fun.

  6. I've been wanting to read Slammerkin forever, even more after reading Frog Music. Did Toledo make it to you?? Yay!!

    1. Slammerkin has been on my wishlist/TBR for an embarrassingly long time. So glad to finally be bumping it up to the top. And Toledo arrived Friday! I meant to tell you and then my brain left the building.

  7. I'm having to train myself to be able to put down a book that's not doing it for me at the moment. I need to develop better reading schizophrenia!

    1. Yep! I had to do that with Cranford, even though I was willing to push myself through for a group read. But it was totally stalling my reading. No good.

  8. Each time I go to IKEA it's a horror story!

Those new Penguin Classics covers are so pretty.

  9. What a fun variety! I haven't read any of those. I added Horrorstor to my wish list after seeing your rating on Goodreads, even though you clearly didn't adore it. It looks too crazy fun.

    1. I thought so! That seems to be what I really need right now...lots of variety! I didn't adore it, but it was definitely fun. I read it in a day and had to know what happened.

  10. Horrorstor sounds SO intriguing! I can't wait to hear more. I've just re-met Cathy (so around page 90) and the reading is going fairly quickly for me. It's slowly starting to come back and definitely keeping my interest. I've vowed that I will NOT start another book until I've finished it. Annoying Brooke keeps rubbing it in how good the 4th Outlander is.

Hope the reading evens out a bit for you! Or maybe schizo is fun. ;)

    1. It was a lot of fun. Cathy is a PIECE OF WORK. OMG! I'm going to bust through this week of BookTubeaThon while balancing East of Eden, and then I'll be monogamous until I'm finished with it.

    1. It was totally quirky and seriously spooky in spots. Gimmicky in others.

  13. I love East of Eden. We did it for book club and there was so much to talk about. And 50 odd years on, still so relevant in so many ways.

    1. Cranford was a bust for me, I'm afraid. I'll probably still try to finish it, just not this week.
