A Day in the (My) Life!

First, thanks to Trish for hosting such a fun event. I can't wait to read about everyone's days!

Join the event!
Events as recorded Monday, March 23, 2015. :::drumroll:::

Early Morning

Up at 5:30 a.m. - Hubs working WAY out of town (comparatively, he usually works from home).
5:40 - Shower while David gets Greyson to wake up and move to the couch.
5:45 - Do hair and start makeup, teeth brushed, lotion slathered, etc.
6:00 - Hubs out the door.
6:30 - Makeup on, hair done, get kid into clothes and teeth brushed.
6:49 - I'm dressed, struggle to get kid away from TV.
7:00 - Out the door, only forgot one thing.

Drawing pics!
It's a miracle I had time for makeup.

7:08 - On the road to work/school, 30-minute commute.
7:40 - Drop Greyson off at pre-school.
7:45 - Zip into Walmart to buy kiddo new clothes so he's not stuck in belly shorts and daisy dukes. How DO they grow so fast?

Work Day Morning

8:00 - Drive through McDonald's for oatmeal and morning coffee.

The oooold, very collegiate-looking building where I work.

Messy office! Don't look!

8:05 - Arrive at work, eat oatmeal, drink coffee while...
8:10 - Computer starts up (takes ages), wade through a gazillion spam emails from spring break, and answer the three legitimate emails waiting for me. Coffee coffee coffee, pleasantries with co-workers.
8:35 - Take to the Twitters. Retweet good stuff, answer Tweets, address some personal emails that got lost in the cracks. Includes: bloggers I love, Panels and Book Riot editorial backchannels. Start a blog draft of this day.

9:07 Dive into the fray. Post university's new social media headers, sift through Google alerts, touch base with my employee about her to-do list, set up a social media boosted post for an upcoming graduate event, request some URL redirects, wrangle a rogue dean, second proof of the alumni magazine.
10:33 - Break to call and make Greyson's 5-year check up and an appointment for taxes. Brief Facebook convo with G's dad.
10:45 - Resolve URL redirect issues, scan through to-do list for the week, finally get that Facebook post boosted, random chit-chat with co-worker about our real estate empires because mine is the PARTY OFFICE!

11:55 - Five minutes on Facebook messenger with hubs to let him know I made our tax appointment and our prospective honeymoon dates to somewhere tropical are a GO! Hurrah! He also shared his Audible credentials so I can listen to Game of Thrones in the coming weeks.

THE chicken sandwich! Image credit.

Lunch!

Noon - Today I was lazy and didn't get leftovers into a lunch box to bring with me, so go to Sonic for a chicken sandwich, jalapeno poppers, and a ginormous raspberry water because I love their ice. Sit in the quiet of my car, windows open to the beautiful day, and read The Vacationers, by Emma Straub.

Work Day Afternoon

1:00 - Email catch up! Negotiate copy for summer ads, test-drive some social media graphics, touch base with writer-employee about an upcoming speaker series, assign an athletic department press release syndication to one of the student writers.
1:20 - Departmental leadership meeting with Executive Director, Creative Director, Project Manager and myself to set the week's priorities.
2:30 - Hand off alumni magazine copy until the next review is due. More ad copy debate and requests for approval.
3:00 - Popping into #Bloggiesta chat while I multi-task conversations with co-workers and more changes to alumni magazine copy.
4:00 - THINGS. Mostly cleaning up remaining messes from the day and trying to knock a few things off my to-do list.
5:05 - Pick up kiddo from pre-school and drive 30 minutes home.

Evening! Finally!

5:45 - Dinner! Leftovers. We had the BEST smothered steak from the slow cooker yesterday, so we don't even mind the leftovers this time.
6:30 - Play outside, take a walk, wrangle dogs, talk to hubs about our day.

7:30 - Bath time.
8:00 - TV time for kiddo, reading time for hubs and myself.
8:30 - Try to get the kiddo to stop flipping and flopping and sleep already!
9:00 - Read, watch beauty videos, and other general laziness.
10:00 - ZZZZzzzzzZZZZZzzzz

    1. I DON'T KNOW! I wish he'd stop growing so dang fast. He'll be off to school in August, and I'm already nearly beside myself.

  2. I love the little pup peeping out from the recliner picture. Adorable!

    1. Hahah! They're good at things like that. Weenie dogs are burrowers, through and through!

  3. Just when I'd forgotten how much I enjoy McDonald's oatmeal, Andi reminds me. That pic of Grey and the doggie is the cutest thing ever. I die, seriously.

    1. THAT'S ME! Only 250 calories. For me that's pretty good. I usually eat whatever I want for breakfast and do slightly lower-cal the rest of the day. He loves that dog. That dog wishes he wouldn't squeeze so enthusiastically. Ironically, the dog's name is Trouble. They're a pair.

  4. Can I just say your leftovers sound DELICIOUS! And I can't believe your boy is already 5! indeed it goes so fast. I can't wait for my days to stop being cold, winter and I are not the best friends :/. Thank you for sharing!!

    1. They were sooo goood. I need to do a weekend cooking post about it. Weather has been lovely here...70s this week...but now it's dipping again and upsetting me (and my allergies).

  5. Greyson is SO cute! And I loved seeing a glimpse of your work day. Your work to-do list must be ginormous - you got so much done!

    1. Thank you! My to-do list is stupid crazy. This day didn't even include paper grading at lunch or last minute PR nightmares after hours! Woohoo!

  6. This was fun and you look enormously put together on your way to work - make-up I mean. Lovely. Cute of the kiddo and pooch. And that chicken sandwich looks good. I pretty much only visit Sonic for drinks now - yes, the ice. ;-)

    1. Thank you! I don't even know how I pulled that off with hubs out of the house. People usually think I'm nuts when I mention Sonic ice, so I'm tickled we're on the same page. :D

  7. Your work day sounds an awful lot like mine. University, social media, marketing stuff. FUN!! The deadlines irk me though. Always last minute and always late on a Friday.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Right??? I totally relate to those last minute deadlines. Monday and Friday are usually crazy, so this was a fairly a-typical Monday.

  8. Wait you managed to fit in shopping in the morning before work?!! It's great that you fit in all these book/bloggy things within your day.

    1. It's one of my best-kept secrets. I can drop Greyson off at the pre-school at 7:30, so I often do that and then zip over to grocery shop or whatever before I go to work at 8. It's soooo much easier than trying to haul him in and out during the after work rush.

  9. I really like the idea of blogging about your day, I find stuff like that fascinating (I maybe weird thought). I will write mine this weekend, since my weekdays consist of work and going home and binge watching Netflix. #thuglife

    1. Me too! I love when people do stuff like this, so I'm eating this link-up up! Cheers to Netflix!

  11. Love your last .gif - too cute! I like your "and other general laziness." To me, that helps with productivity somewhere along the way.

  12. Phew - I felt like I had a busy day just reading this :-) It's awesome how you guys have entertainment time together even though you might be doing different activities.

    1. Yep, we're pretty darn good at that. David and I care almost nothing for TV. He watches more than I do, but it's usually on his tablet after Greyson goes to bed. I could leave it completely, but Greyson likes a dose of superheroes in the evening.

  13. I totally missed this link-up, but it's so fun reading about everyone else's days! Will be interested to see what you think of The Vacationers...I read it last summer.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think you should totally jump in on this. Because I'm a voyeur! Also, loving The Vacationers. I wish I'd had more time to read this week.

  14. Gosh, it's amazing you have any time to read. Busy! Your little guy is so cute! And your makeup always looks great. I love your instagram shots.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cindi, it seems like lately the most time I get to read is weekends when Greyson is at his dad's house or lunch time at work. A little restrictive, but it works out OK. Thank you re: instagram!

  15. Busy day!
Poor Evan wore a belly shirt to the beach last weekend if it makes you feel any better. They grow way too fast.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Solidarity! LOL The belly shirts crack me up, but I'm sure he'll not be too thrilled with me one day if I let it go on too much. ;)

  16. I enjoyed reading about your day, Andi. :-) Work days can be so crazy, can't they?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They certainly can! This one I logged was fairly low key. There were definitely much hairier, meeting-ful days this week!

  17. Now I have to go try Sonic ice.

  18. Your header reminds me of my Kindle. I can't imagine getting everyone out the door by 7. Nope. But, my commute, even with dropping all the kids off yesterday, is 11 minutes. SO.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm so jealous of your "commute." When Greyson starts school he'll be right next door. I will still be stuck with 30 minutes each way. SOOO BORING!

      Delete
  19. Wow, what a busy day. But I love that you still find time to play and relax.

    1. Definitely! My job is fairly stressful so I insist on boundaries and fun time!

  20. I used to love getting shopping done before work, back when I had a different job in a different city with a sane commute. (Another life, really.) I really enjoyed reading about your day, Andi!

    1. This was a fairly slowish work day, so I got more fun stuff done than usual. Not complaining! And he's growing so dang fast. It's just nuts.

      Delete
  22. Like Olduvia said, I like how you fit the blogging things into the day. While at work, I don't spend much time on social media. In theory, we're not supposed to be on Facebook (in reality, I'm not most of the time, I might look but rarely comment during work hours unless I'm at dinner - work mostly evenings)...occasionally I am on Twitter and might comment more there during the day.

    ReplyDelete

    1. My job entails social media, so when I'm not doing university stuff, I try to fit in some of my own things. Some days/weeks are good for it while others are not. Last week was unusually low key. I hope this week is, too! lol

      Delete
  23. Haha, I loved reading about the short shorts! I remember having to convince D that no, he could not wear those belly shirts and flood pants to school!!

The Vacationers seems like the perfect pick for right now, when we are hoping spring will show up for good one of these days! I can't wait to hear what you think. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Greyson threw a fit about some too-short pants last week, and then today he was fine wearing them. Sigh. If the weather would cooperate and decide if it wants to be warm or cold, that would also help our wardrobe woes. lol

The Vacationers is definitely a perfect pick for right now. It's not helping my wanderlust, though!

  24. I've never had McDonalds oatmeal. I love oatmeal so maybe I should try it. Greyson is so big now! Wow, time flies! I thought you just had him. Crazy.

    1. It's good! I'm not a fan of toooo much there, but I like it for a light breakfast. And yes, he's like as tall as my armpit which is CRAZY.

  25. Love! Yes, kids grow way too fast! Like all the pics.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love the way you write! Your comments about belly shirts and daisy dukes and wrangling a rogue dean are priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wish my office were that clean. And I love that blast off to bed t-shirt. Adorable. And, yeah, sometimes those growth spurts come out of nowhere--even when they are expected.

Somewhere tropical sounds delightful. How exciting!

Also, you love Sonic's ICE? I've never heard anyone say that before. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL, I know it sounds weird like a place's ice, but it's SOOOOO good! It's little chunks but they're soft enough to chew, which I do because I'm super anemic. I can't help myself. hehe

  28. If you can get your 5 year old to stop flipping and flopping will you please let me know how you did it? Mine treats bedtime as a battle to the death every single night. He doesn't go to sleep he passes out from exhaustion! It sounds like you spend your day putting out small fires but at least you got a yummy lunch out of it! Also, that smother steak sounds amazing. Off to check Pinterest for recipes!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Battle TO THE DEATH. That's the perfect way to put it. Sunday nights are the worst, but he's usually so tired he passes out by Monday and Tuesday nights. He always wants me to "cuddle with him," but he falls asleep so much easier when I'm not in the room.

I definitely spend my day putting out fires, wrangling emails, and all that jazz. That day was particularly uneventful which was nice!

      Delete
  29. The hubs and I try to talk about our day every evening too! And kids just ruin night don't they? I have one that won't go to sleep and then a newborn who insists on continually waking up. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We definitely try to spend some time recapping and venting! Ha! And those kiddos definitely have a way with evenings. Oh my!

  30. Of all the many things you manage to accomplish in your day (seriously, so many!), I think I'm most impressed by how together and cute you always manage to look. My face is lucky if it gets a little concealer, and my work-from-home attire more closely resembles pajamas than actual clothes. Maybe someday I'll learn some better tricks. Until then, I'll just admire yours :)

    1. Awww, thanks, Erin! I'm just lucky I have a closet full of clothes I like (which took a lot of whittling), and we start early in the morning so I have at least a little time for makeup. It's just so fun! I know if I was working from home (which I did for a while), it would be VERY different. Hello, yoga pants!

  38. You're one of the few who seems to get to bed at a decent hour (like me). I don't know how some of those others stay up SO late. And smothered steak? Wanna pass on that recipe? ;)

And that picture of you is beautiful! Red is your color!

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is great! You don't mention teaching/grading though. I'd hate to see what your day looks like when you add those into the schedule.

Great photos. I agree with Trish. Red is certainly your color!

  40. I want the recipe to your smothered steak, too!! Sounds delicious!!

I can't wait to hear about your honeymoon plans. Tropical vacations are the best!

Still can't believe your kiddo is 5!

Great photos, Andi. I loved this event and can't wait to join in next time around.
