Monday Meltdown, err Rundown

Ugh. Mondays are the worst, we all know that. Mine are made worse by the fact that I generally have insomnia on Sunday nights. Almost always. What does that say about my feelings for going back into a work week? Hmmm.

Anyway, last night (this morning), the dogs woke me up around 2:30 and I never went back to sleep. Needless to say, I practically have snakes growing out of my head right now. Even after coffee. My child was in nearly the same great mood as me, so we were quite the peachy crowd. I should also add, we had three and a half days off last week for ice and snow, so that makes the idea of a full week even more dismal.

On the brigher side, I have winners for my blogiversary giveaway!

B&N Card: Rachel Noel from Purple Owl Reviews!
Comixology: Memory Scarlet from In the Forest of Stories!
Sephora Card: Jennifer Berry!

In other news, this was not a very readerly week. That darned snow and ice I mentioned always jacks up my reading. When we get sent home for bad weather, I end up having to field eleventy zillion questions on social media about openings, closings, etc. Not conducive to reading. Nope. Nada.

This week is a new week, and the choices are looking bright!

These are the books I hear peeping at me from the shelves...

How's Monday treating you?

  1. I don't usually have insomnia (knock on wood), but I did spend more time than normal over the weekend stressing about coming into work today. I'm not sure why, since this weekend isn't set to be any more or less stressful than any other week, but there it is.

But reading! I loved Americanah a lot -- really smart writing about topics I haven't spent much time thinking about it. It's long, but it never felt like a chunkster to me.

  2. Gah! Drink all the coffee today!

I tried Americanah once, but I don't think it was the right time and it ended up abandoned. I'll probably give it another shot at some point.

Also, *grumbles at the person who STILL has Authority and Acceptance, even though they were due five days ago*

  3. Snow days always mess things up one way or another. We have another one today. I think we have had practically every Monday off this year! I'm sending good, caffeinated thoughts your way today!

I'm interested to see what you think of Americanah. I'm reading Adichie's short story collection right now.

  4. I love the new blog design! Very clean! My book club is reading Americanah right now, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to fit it in. My March is packed with review books. I love the cover of Crazy Rich Asians - it's different from when I read it. I thought the book was a bit long and dragged some, but would make a great reality TV show!

  5. I think you would love Americanah and hope you end up getting to it - it's such a great read! I just finished another of her books and she's quickly working her way onto my favorite authors list.

  6. Love the new look for the blog! I picked up Americanah last summer but haven't read it yet. I'll be curious to see what you think of it if you get to it. After commenting about it being one of the oldest books on my TBR list, I picked up For Whom the Bell Tolls last night. Only 1 chapter in so that will be my reading this week. I just heard that there may be another chance for wintry stuff Thursday - here's hoping it will be short-lived and not affect the roads. Hope you sleep well tonight!

  7. I'm so exited I won the comiXology prize! I haven't won anything in ages and ages. Thanks for holding the giveaway!

On a less chipper note: booooooo to Sunday night insominia. Insomnia's never fun, but pre-workday insomnia is the worst. :(

  8. Insomnia sucks! I struggle with it quite often and it just makes you feel like crap. Congratulations to the winners!

  9. I always have a case of the Mondays, so I can dig this post. Sorry about your insomnia - that totally sucks!! And Crazy Rich Asians is a terrifically fun read - think soap opera. Hope you have a great week!!

  10. I've got to try Crazy Rich Asians, but where's Crazy White Folks? I might have to write that one.
I'm often up all night on Sunday, mentally going over my week. It not only makes for a yucky Monday, it has the potential to ruin the week. Here's my post.

  11. Congratulations to all the winners! I am also reading Authority :D. I have to say, this Monday was weirdly calm, maybe since my boss was out? I find it that I am always more productive when he is not around, guess is because there is less stress. Hang in there, hopefully the rest of your week will pick up tomorrow!

  13. I'm not even working now, but still have that Sunday night insomnia - crazy!! Hope your day got better.

  14. I am having a really hard time sleeping lately in general. Mackie used to be really good about sleeping through the night, but lately if Lorrie gets up to pee the dog thinks it is morning. So, I'm awake even if Lorrie is the one that takes him out. GR! I hope you enjoyed your coffee!

  15. I love the new look. Very pretty and simple. I've heard good things about CRAZY RICH ASIANS. And, we didn't get all the nasty down here in the Austin area, but the weather people went on and on and on about it. I think our weather people are so bored. Any possible "weather event" is so thrilling to them. Good luck with your week. Sorry about the insomnia. For me, it's gotten better now that the dreaded "menopause" is over. :-)

  17. I REEALLLYYYY need to read some Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie STAT. I want to start with Purple Hibiscus (you read that one?), and think I'm going to need to make that happen either this month or next! Hopefully you're week gets better from here on out :)

P.S. I found I can comment on your (and other Blogger) blogs only in Internet Explorer, but not Chrome... ??? Not sure what that's about.

  18. I used to always feel a little sick Sunday evening. I rarely have insomnia now. I used to though. I have two solutions that worked (though I never heard that they worked for anyone else -- and no one ever thanked me for my great advice so probably they are useless for others.) The first: change beds -- go sleep on the couch. Somehow resetting-- getting all the blankets warmed up puts me to sleep. And the other was listen to deep repetitive resonant Indian chants that I didn't understand the words to. I could also recommend some very dense non-fiction I'm trying to get through right now.

  19. I hate it when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep! Hope the week gets better for you. I hope you like Crazy Rich Asians. I really enjoyed it. I listened to it in audio, and the narrator, Lynn Chen, did the voices of the elders so well.

  20. As a fellow insomniac with other beings adding to the lack of sleep, I feel your pain.

  21. I have sleep issues. Now I have broken arm sleep issues.

  22. Unpopular opinion: I actually don't mind Mondays. They tend to be the most productive day in my week. Tuesdays are a harder slog. However, my sweetheart is much more of your point of view.

I'm partway into VANITY FAIR at the moment, but thinking I might diverge into Becca Lusher's novella BE WITH ME.

  23. Stupid Mondays. Stupid insomnia. Stupid snow days! :/ I hope you have a much better Monday next time around ;)

I've heard lots of good things about Crazy Rich Asians, can't wait to hear what you think!

  24. Right there with you. I am cranky, sleep deprived, up to my ass in work, and cramping. *runs out of office to Starbucks*

  25. Whoa, I love the new look!

Sorry to hear it's been a rough reading week. Americanah has been calling me, too!

  26. Oh I hate having insomnia! Sorry you had such a yucky start of the week but hopefully things will get better. Can you believe this weather we are having in Texas? So crazy. I hear we have another polar ice front coming tomorrow. Yikes. Here's to good books to keep us calm :)
