#AMonthofFaves Favorite Things: Makeup!

Instead of jumping into the favorite books fray this early in the game, I'm gonna go the makeup route instead. I'm sure no one is terribly surprised. Here are some makeup products I discovered this year that are tippy top of my cosmetic and skincare favorites.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation: So hydrating, such a beautiful finish, and it takes SO LITTLE to go a long way. This also comes in a great shade range with lots of choice, even deeper skin tones which can be hard to come by. Since this is also really hydrating, I think it's better suited to dry skin.

Colourpop Sheer Lipsticks: I hate having to worry that my lipstick is going to bleed outside my lip line or generally crawl all over my face. These sheer formulas give beautiful color with decent staying power and they aren't so opaque that you have to slave over the application. I own Juice Bar and Crunch.

Benetint: It might look scary but this red cheek stain gives such a natural glow to the cheeks, and it's a great base for powder blushes to help them stay put all day long. If you're scared by the $30 price tag, realize that this would probably still last you a year or more if you used it every day. It doesn't take much!

Neutragena Rapid Wrinkle Repair with Retinol is amaaaaazing. It has really changed the texture of my skin for the better and keeps it looking brighter, which is hard to do since I have super dry skin. There are several versions of this product and I use the more "daytime" one with SPF 30.

The Balm Nude Dude eyeshadows: I originally got one of these in my Ipsy bag, and this shadow is gorgeous, stays all day (with a primer underneath), and even the shimmery shades don't lose their luster. I definitely have my eyeballs on the whole palette, and it's such a collection of wearable shades.

  1. I really don't consider myself to be much of a "girly" girl, and always complain about having to wear makeup (I mostly just wear it to work because I feel like it provides a more professional look), but the crazy thing is that I LOOOOOVE makeup and beauty products! I used to hoard them, especially during the time that I worked at a makeup counter. All that to say that this post is so much fun for me! I, too, use Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair with Retinol almost every night; there are times when it dries my skin out too much and I have to skip a night, or two, but it has made a big difference for me, as well. Benetint is AHHHMAZING and this reminds me that I need to get some more! I love your description of the Too Faced foundation; I'm going to have to give this one a try. Thanks so much for sharing these, Andi - new ideas! Eeeeek!!! Hope you have a great day.

    1. All my money would be GONE if I worked with anything makeup related! LOL I don't consider myself a girly girl either, but I adore makeup and find it's a great creative outlet for me. I do my Retinol 2-3 times per week so I don't get too dry. Definitely love the extra exfoliant boost! Benetint was a game changer for me. I used a sample for THREE MONTHS and fell in love. I have a sample of the Lollitint that I'll use next. Excited!

  2. I have to get myself that Neutrogena cream. I have the daily moisturizer. I like it but want something a bit stronger. Love your list!

    1. I find this can dry my skin a bit so I use it at night so I can exfoliate in the morning. I definitely recommend starting with that just to see how your skin reacts. I wore it during the day the first time I tried it and ended up looking like a peeling mess by the end of the day. lol

  3. I am so bad at make-up, so I love all these tips! Going to try them out, *especially* the foundation! Thanks, pretty lady!

    1. Awesome! Let me know if you like it! I definitely recommend popping by a Sephora for a sample before you commit to a foundation. Even the ones in JC Penney will give you a sample that lasts a week+.

  4. I always look forward to your Estella Sparkles posts! And while I do use some makeup on a regular basis (foundation, blush), I still never know what to do when it comes to eyeshadow and lipstick! So while I'm not interested in makeup enough to go follow beauty bloggers, it's been fun learning about new brands and products from your posts and Instagram!

  5. So, I think I need to try an eyeshadow primer. Which do you like the most?

    1. I emailed you back directly, but I totally recommend the Milani eyeshadow primer. I get mine at CVS for about $6 and it's great! A little goes a long way and it really helps wear time.

  6. I love The Balm products and I have a few of their shadows but haven't gotten to them yet. I'll have to look for the Neutragenia skin stuff. I'm always looking for good anti-aging cream that isn't' too pricey.

  8. Do you know your posts inspired me to be a little more adventurous with makeup! I don't do much but I'd love some more lipstick options so I experimented with some gloss ones but discovered I love matte lipsticks more.

    1. Awww yay! I love a good matte lipstick myself. If you're ever so moved, try out Colourpop mattes. $5 each, but the only down side is you have to order online. Great color choices, though.

  9. All the women in my family swear by Olay, but I will have to try Neutrogena and see how it is.

    1. I've Olayed and it wasn't quite hydrating enough for me. But my skin is like the Crypt Keeper. It takes a combo of a LOT of stuff to keep me hydrated!

  10. So I'm new to doing brows, but I LOVE the Pixi (Target) brow palette. I have patchy brows, and I've been pleasantly surprised by what an impact it makes to fill them in with this.

Also, for skincare, I bought the Frank Body line - soap, scrub, moisturizer - and have thoroughly enjoyed it. This comes from a chick who has washed her face with nothing but Dove soap for over a decade (dermatologist recommended). I researched a ton beforehand but was still nervous to use something new. Between Frank Body and the Pixi Glow Tonic, I'm loving my skin these days.

    1. My brows are pretty solid, so I haven't messed with them much, though I can see them being darkend up a bit (they're turning gray) would probably be to my advantage. With so many brown products it's hard to know where to start! I'll give Pixi a go if I decide to dive in. I haven't used many of their products, but I hear such good things about the Glow Tonic. Yayyy good skincare!

  11. I've been an Olay girl since, well...since I was a girl but you've got me intrigued about Neutrogena. I think this will be part of my 2016 time-to-change-it-up regimen.

My favorite make-up acquisition this year has been Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. A friend gave me one and I've gone on to buy two more. A little spendy but it is the perfect amount of color and balm. Fig is the color I'm loving now.

  12. Benetint is where it's AT. Though mine ran out ages ago and you've reminded me I intended to replace it... I love Estella Sparkles but my budget does not so much love it ;-)

  13. Love your Estella Sparkle posts and really enjoyed reading about your favorites. I have a nice deluxe sample of the Born This Way foundation but haven't tried it yet as I'm working through another. I'm really looking forward to it. I've been on a bit of a roll buying makeup this season as there have been such good deals but I probably should stop :)
