Poking My Head Out Into the Interwebs (Where I've Been)

Oh, hey! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably knew I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. If you don't follow me, you might've assumed. Lord knows I haven't been writing.

Here's what I have been doing:

1. Grading, grading, grading. I taught four sections of composition this term and TA'ed (ie, graded) for another four.

2. Etsy shop. I've been making new stuff as best I can, though all that grading can throw a wrench in the plans. I'm coming up on 1,000 sales, so I think there's a giveaway in order.

3. Vegging out. Chilling like broccoli. I bought myself an Xbox One for my 37th birthday and I'm completely addicted to Lego games and Little Nightmares to name a couple. I also play a lot of SIMS 4 since the new Cats and Dogs expansion came out.

I've been reading here and there, but it's mostly been super laid back, fun romance. Namely, the Winston Brothers series by Penny Reid. I just finished the second book, Grin and Beard It (!!!), and it was the greatest. I'm on to book three, Beard Science (ha!!!).

What else? Holidays! Family fun! We've had a lot going on, and it's been good stuff. I hope you're well, and I'll see you all soon. I have a few weeks coming up that will be GLORIOUSLY SLOW.

  1. Welcome back! I definitely know how it feels to be consumed by ALL of the grading. Every year I tell myself I'll find the time to blog in the fall and never do! For right now I'm just lurking on the interwebs and trying to get to winter break.

    1. It's soooo overwhelming! I get all fired up for it when I know I have a break coming and then...fizzle. Sigh!

  2. I think grading is the bane of teachers' existence.

When I saw the cover of Grin & Beard It, I thought you'd done a cross-stitch.

  3. Nice to see this post! Life sounds very busy for you, but thank goodness for the winter break, right? Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving. We sure did and now we're in the mood to start decorating for Christmas. I've been reading A Gentleman in Moscow and although several readers have said it's a bit slow, I love it and am savoring every single page. I don't want it to end!

    1. Thank you, Les! I'm just counting down to the break. I'm so ready. We had a great Thanksgiving...very laid back. We just started our Christmas decorating today. When Greyson gets home from his dad's we'll go ahead and decorate our tree. I'm so glad you're liking A Genttleman in Moscow!

  6. I sometimes wonder if I made a mistake by not sticking with teaching all those years ago, but then I hear from current teachers and remember one of the many reasons why I chose to go into a different career field. Good luck with all of the grading and enjoy your pending break!

    1. If it wasn't the only job I've ever had that doesn't really feel like work...very often...I would've absolutely done something else. It's a handful, pain in the ass, but ultimately makes me pretty happy. Still ready for the quarter to be over, though. lol

  7. Congrats on doing so well with your shop! You have the cutest things. And, it definitely sounds like you've earned yourself some downtime. Hope you get to relax some at the end of December!

    1. Thank you, Iliana! I was pre-planning a big portion of December today based on the school calendar, Cub Scouts, and my various semester ends. I wrote down that I'll close the shop for vacation on December 10. There will be too many irons in the fire!

  8. Grading sounds horrible (you should just send some to me and they'll get what they get - LOL!); it's no wonder you need some light reading to take the edge off. Glad to "see" you back here! :)

  9. Oh for some slow weeks! I'm glad you've got a few coming up -- I hope absolutely nothing interrupts your slightly-more-than-usually-relaxing (I don't want to overstate the case without full information) next few weeks. BASK IN PEACEFULNESS.
