Peril Pools and Book Blogger Hops

I finally got off my duff last night (first time I've ever typed "duff" unless it was in reference to Ace of Cakes) and put together my Peril Pool. Rocketgirl will be joining me for RIP V, and we have a hulking stack of books on the coffee table. Two stacks, actually.

I'm interested in reading:
  • The Vampire Diaries, The Return: Nightfall by L.J. Smith
  • Z, by Michael Thomas Ford
  • Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
  • Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar
  • The Zombie Chasers by John Kloepfer
  • Little Vampire Women by Louisa May Alcott and mashed by Lynn Messina
  • Marked by P.C. Cast
  • Shimmer by Dallas Reed
  • The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
  • The Little Black Book of Short Stories by A.S. Byatt
  • Many and Many a Year Ago by Selcuk Altun
  • The Semantics of Murder by Aifric Campbell
  • Wild Nights! by Joyce Carol Oates
  • Drood by Dan Brown
  • A Severed Head by Iris Murdoch
Not pictured:
  • From Hell by Alan Moore
  • The Birthing House by Chris Ransom
  • 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
  • Anything by Angela Carter!
  • The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
Many of these books have been in my Peril Pool for RIP before, but I rarely get around to as many of them as I'd like. Rocketgirl is really excited about the challenge, so wish us lots o'luck!

And a proud mama has to share a picture like this. Greyson was all decked out in his footie pajamas a couple of nights ago. I put him in his Boppy pillow, we read his new Where's My Mommy board book, and he passed out holding the book. That's my little bookworm!

Finally, you know how much I love Fridays. It's time for the Book Blogger Hop! Go on over to Crazy for Books and jump in!

This week's question: Do you judge a book by its cover? Uhhh, I just posted my top 10 covers yesterday. I am a huge fan or hugely annoyed by covers. Generally, they don't stop me from reading a book, though.

  1. Love the pic of your little bookworm. Precious!

  2. Great pic! He's just so cute.

And that's one serious stack of awesome books. You are adding to my wish list without even writing a review...

  3. Adorable! Now you need to get a shot of him reading a Halloweenish book for RIP. :D

  4. I'm just a little bit jealous that you have someone to do the challenge with - that will be so much fun!

I love the picture of Greyson!

  5. Greyson's a cutie pie!

I'm glad to see your RIP books. The Woman in White is great and I'm interested in the AS Byatt short stories.

  6. Great peril pool! That is awesome that Rocket Girl is going to join too. How fun! Aww you are definitely one lucky momma with that beautiful baby. Adorable.

  7. Seems like I see Woman in White on multiple lists every time this challenge rolls around. I might have to check it out!

Are you doing the Peril on the Screen?

  8. Hello.

    Happy Hopping to all.

  9. Awww...look how big he is getting already! Time flies when you have a little one, doesn't it??

  10. Okay, I am dying to know ... is your actual name Estella or are you paying homage to Great Expectations in some way? Either way, your blog title is awesome and so is the rest of it! I'm a new follower!

Hope you have a great weekend,
    Jessi @ The Elliott Review

  11. How appropriate that so many of the covers are black and ominous looking.

  12. What a cute baby pic! I'm visiting from the hop and your blog looks fun!

Books from Bleh to Basically Amazing

  13. OMGoodness...he is just so dang adorable!!!

As usual, RIP is going to be dangerous. I haven't even heard of several of the books on your list. Which undoubtedly means that when you review them, they'll end up on my wish list. But then it wouldn't be RIP without ever-growing wish lists, would it?

Glad Rocketgirl is joining you! My whole gang is joining in this year, and I have to admit that that makes it even more fun (and I didn't think RIP could be more fun than it already was)!

  14. Andi- Love the pic of Grayson- is he really that big already!!! Anyhoo glad you started linking your blog to fb, I'd forgot what it was. Still love it!

  15. Thank you, Anna!

Trisha, thank you muchly. We like to squish his cheeks on a regular basis and bask in the cuteness. And it's my pleasure to enable.

Amanda, that's next on the docket. I'm sure it won't be too hard to coerce him into it.

Kathy, I'm pretty excited about that myself. When I proposed it she was totally onboard. Not only does she want to do Peril the First, she wants to read ALL the books we've picked out. One ambitious reader we have on our hands.

Stephanie, I chose The Woman in White to start. I've been in this damned slump, and I figured the best way to fend it off would be to read something totally different from what I've been reading. So far, so good. I'm really really enjoying it. I'm just now at the part where he meets the woman on the road.

Thank you, Amanda! We have a good brood of kiddos. :)

Jen, The Women in White does seem to be a popular one. I'd never even heard of it until I started RIPing. Definitely check it out. I'm also doing Peril on the Screen. Haven't decided what I'll watch yet, but I'm keeping an eye on my cable channels.

    Thanks for stopping by, Elizabeth!

Samantha, I just didn't realize how time flies until we had Greyson. He grew FOUR INCHES in the two months between appointments. I think we have a superbaby. I see many shoe shopping trips in our future. lol

Jessi, thanks for asking! My name is Andi, but Great Expectations was one of the first classics I ever fell in love with. Specifically, I loved Miss Havisham and Estella. When I started this blog is was for quite spiteful reasons, so I named it Estella's Revenge. It seemed fitting at the time, and it stuck. It's been my online persona for over five years. Time flies!

Jill, isn't it? I think the publishers anticipated my needs for once. Whahaha!

Thank you for stopping by, Ashley! Can't wait to check out your blog as well.

Debi, I'm glad to hear that your brood will be joining in! It's always so much more fun that way (and you're right, it's hard to improve on RIP). :D

Thanks for stopping by, Val! It's good to see ya, girl. When ya gonna be in Texas again? lol

  16. How exciting! You've got a great list of books there, Andi. I tried not to make my tentative list too long, but it was hard to stop. I could keep adding books all day! My post with my list will go up tomorrow. I'm getting even more ideas reading everyone else's lists.

What a wonderful photo of Greyson!

As for the question of the week, in some ways I do judge a book by its cover. When I'm browsing in the store, I am more likely to pick up random books with covers that attract me and skip over ones that don't. On the other hand, if there's a book I really want to read, no matter how terrible the cover may be, I still want to read the book. Ultimately, it's what is on the inside that matters most.

    Have a great week, Andi!

  17. You are two brave girls, that's all I can say!! I wouldn't sleep for a week after reading any of 'em!

  18. Ooo! Greyson! Looks so yummy, I totally want to nibble those cheeks!

The Woman in White is one of my very favorite RIP books. Excellent choice! They all look great! I actually find myself interested in Paranormalcy, so I'm interested in what you think of that one. And the Cast series, as I think it's quite an addictive stinker. LOL

  19. That is one adorable little bookworm!!

  20. Absolutely adorable photo of your baby!

You must be another fast reader :), a great stack of books listed.

Have a great week (I sent you an email re: the nook).

  21. What an impressive list!!!

And even more important, what a darling picture!!! He is getting so big already. Slow it down!!! :)

And yes, I judge books by their covers, at least in the sense that I don't often buy books unless I like the cover, unless it is an author I am fond of. A bad cover will send me to the library faster than anything.

  22. Aw, look at Andi's little bookworm! What a cutie!!

Thanks for taking the time to comment! Blogger has been a beast lately, so I hope you do not have any troubles leaving your thoughts.
