For those of you who can't stand the quality, here's the recap in brief:
The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan - much improved! Not as many weird, overblown analogies at this point.
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness -- I received an e-ARC from a super secret blog buddy! I'm just trying not to race through this one. I'm doing a buddy read, so I have to STOP MYSELF from jumping ahead.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett -- A little slower than the other two but charming and lovely and a nice counterpoint to brutal paranormal (Last Werewolf). About 3/4 done with this one.
What's up next? No idea! Whatever calls to me since I'm "Reading whatever I want, whenever I want."
It's Monday! What are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila from BookJourney. Go on over and be a part!
OMGosh...I am so in love with your voice!!! I have such an annoying voice. :( Seriously, I want to sound like you! Okay, I will stop weirding you out now, and move on to books. Your outlook really is the best ever-whatever and whenever. Amen.
ReplyDeleteLOL, you're so sweet, Debi! Not weirded out at all but totally flattered since I usually listen to myself and think, "I don't really sound like that. I can't sound like that."
DeleteI'm still not convinced The Last Werewolf is for me.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not, Kathy. It's pretty brutal.
DeleteI bought The Secret Garden a few months ago, and really need to read it soon. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good! It's become my bedtime book as The Last Werewolf is a little too harsh for before-sleep reading. I can only handle so many entrails before dreaming.
DeleteHow adorable are you?!? Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim! You're too kind. :)
DeleteThe Last Werewolf is such a weird book - I thought it got better as it progressed. I think I might read the sequel too.
ReplyDeleteIt is a weird book. I like its weirdness so far (still about 100 pages in). Will definitely read the sequel if this one stays on the up and up.
DeleteThe Secret Garden is lovely :) A favorite of mine!
ReplyDeleteWhat Are You Reading @ the Brunette Librarian?
It is lovely! It's a great "before bed" book...relaxing and sweet.
DeleteYou're lucky I don't live closer. I'd do serious bodily harm to get control of your e-reader with that ARC of Shadow of Night.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I'd Jello wrestle you for Shadow of Night if need be!
DeleteThe more you talk about reading what you want, when you want the more I wish I didn't have so many review book commitments. I am saying "no" to all review requests this fall and following your advice.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Lisa! It's nice to have a break from the commitments. After two degrees in English, it's hard for me to enjoy reading if there's a deadline tagged on.
DeleteLove the V-Log and yay for The Secret Garden, I had fun with the read a long we did recently! Have a super week :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila! I wish I'd gotten in on the readalong.
DeleteI loved Secret Garden as a girl (and today). I loved the idea that this stubborn, selfish kid accomplishes so much, where a nice well-behaved kid wouldn't have done anything.
ReplyDeleteIt's odd that it's so hard to read what we want, when we want. I struggle with that all the time. No one's pushing me, but I'm happier when I read books that are challenging. I like to trade off.
Keep hearing about Deborah Harkness! I'll have to check her out.
Exactly! I was reading over the bit last night where Mary had more luck calming and chastising Collin than anyone else because they are mirrors of each other. Great stuff.
DeleteI like a mixture of books. Lately, quite honestly, I haven't been in the mood for challenging. Too much going on in daily life, though I do like to switch it up when I'm not so brain fried.
Lovin' your vlogs, Andi! And isn't genre reading just really the best? Sometimes I get lost in genre and never want to return. I don't know why people are so negative towards it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brooke! And yes! I'm totally down with the genre reading this year. I just need something with a more dramatic story arch and I find that certain genres (sf, gothic, magical realism) provide that for me in a way that family dramas and literary fiction (sometimes) don't. Keeps my brain a'churning.
DeleteHappy reading!
ReplyDeleteThank ya! Hope you had a good 4th!
