Happy Thanksgiving!
Admittedly, this post is tooootally pre-scheduled. The truth of the matter is that I'm running around like a crazy person today with a 3-year-old in tow! I hope all my American buddies who celebrate Thanksgiving are having a great day. And I hope everyone else is, too! Now, on to the reading update...
Last week it was in the 70s in Texas, and this weekend we saw temps in the 30s! In fact, there was a good chance we'd be out of school--or at least delayed--on Monday due to a "winter weather event." Didn't happen.
David and I spent much of the weekend hunkered down trying to keep warm. We went out mid-morning on Saturday to do some grocery shopping, but that's about all she wrote. The rest of the day was devoted to home cooking, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Dexter and reading!
This weekend I finished...
Review coming soon, but rest assured, I really liked this one.
I dug into...
I've tried and failed to finish this book multiple times over the years, but for whatever wonderful reason, it's really sticking this time. I whizzed through 200 pages over the weekend, so I hope to finish it up pretty quick.

And on Sunday night, I tried a few different book options before I decided on Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook, by Anthony Bourdain. I needed a new Nook book since I polished off Empty Mansions, and this one seemed like just the thing.
What are you reading right this very minute (besides this blog)?
Happy Thanksgiving! I loved A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; I'm so glad to hear this reading is going better! :-) :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start Empty Mansions next! Probably in a day or two. Glad to hear that it's good.
ReplyDeleteRight this minute I'm rereading the turkey recipe. Happy Thanksgiving, Andi!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to your and your family!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. I just DNF-ed The Supreme Macaroni Company (it was terrible for some reason!) Coincidentally, like you I also DNF-ed Havisham,so don't feel bad! I'm having trouble settling into a book but I'm trying, in the All-American spirit, to read Book of Ages by Jill Lepore.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! Right now I'm reading The Golem and the Jinni. I'm hoping to finish it within the next day or two.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am picking up a completely random non-fiction book, not very fitting to the time of year ... Upstairs Girls. I am really curious how this one will go.
ReplyDeleteHope you've been enjoying your Thanksgiving! I'm enjoying some down time from work finally :) Looking forward to going to the bookstore and finding some deals :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Andi!
ReplyDeleteI had the same experience with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, but the last time, it became one of my favorites. I hope you had a lovely day filled with family and food and good books!
I'm so glad you liked Empty Mansions, I thought it was a great book, too. I'm working on (and really enjoying!) The Lion Seeker, though I haven't had the chance to read much today.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're enjoying A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (I love that book). Same thing happened to me with The Picture of Dorian Gray -- just couldn't get into it and then a few years later read it and loved it. Always a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteHope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. I'm reading If You Find Me, Throne of Glass and Unlimited. Not sure how I have 3 going again without having a melt down but I do. What is the world coming to when I'm ok with having multiple books going at the same time?
ReplyDeleteSo happy A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is sticking! Lol, read it this year as well and was pleased with it. There's an old movie version that shows up on cable a lot, but I've yet to see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading some bell hooks! She's writing about the construction of black masculinity. For a minute I had an anxious feeling that she was maybe saying bad things about one of my all-time heroes, Frederick Douglass -- but no, it was okay. She said nice things about him after all.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
Is it terrible that I read that and thought: Wait, Greyson is 3? How is he 3? Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI loved that episode of Friends! They played it the other day when they had a back-to-back Thanksgiving episode mini-marathon.
ReplyDeleteHope you survived Thanksgiving ;)
ReplyDeleteI have been intrigued by Empty Mansions so much the last months. It is just calling my name. Guess I have to get my hands on a copy.
I'm very glad you are reading (and liking) the book by Betty Smith; I read it a few years ago and I loved it. Here in Spain it was translated then, and I read it not as a classic, but as a new novel which was in every book shop window, and I found it very tender.
ReplyDeleteWell, hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving (here we don't celebrate it, but we know about it thanks to the american movies, hehe)
Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving, Andi. We were in the 50s today! Amazing weather for the last day of November. I'm currently reading Oxygen by ? Cassella and listening to Letters from Skye. Both are very good!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I tried to get Lady Catherine completed, but didn't. Got a good portion of the book completed and now I am having trouble finishing it; seems the focus of what I wanted the book to be about isn't what it is ended up being and really don't like the writing. At the moment I am listening to a book podcast as I read a bunch of emails that have piled up in my inbox over the last few days.
ReplyDeleteI had Empty Mansions in my cart on Cyber Monday for half-price but just couldn't make myself spend money on me when there are so many presents I need to get still! Wishing now I would have!
