Some of my favorites...
- Lizzie from 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl by Mona Awad
- Plum from Dietland by Sarai Walker
- Sarah and Rose from The Regional Office is Under Attack! by Manuel Gonzales
They all kick ass for very different reasons, and badassery is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

My favourite badass character has to be Rincewind from Discworld. He has no sweet clue what he's doing, but he just keeps doing it.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting one. I've never thought of him that way before.
DeleteOut of all the characters I read about during the readathon. My favorite, most badass character was Josie Shuller from lady killer. She was a 50's housewife who was secretly a hit woman.
ReplyDeleteSkye O'Malley, from the book with the same name. No matter what happens to her, she gets through it, and is stronger than before!
ReplyDeleteMy fav. Is DEFINITELY Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses!! She holds her own, stand up for what she believes in, and doesnt need anyone to take care of her! I LOVE HER!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite badass character right now is Ariel from The Girl in the Wall. She never gave up fighting to take back her house even when she wanted to.
ReplyDeleteAnn Aguirre writes great kissass characters. I'm currently enjoying Dred in the book Havoc, who is a chain-wielding Queen of a band of convicts.
ReplyDeleteHaving just finished Allegiant, I have to go with Tris - though I'm a pacifist and don't think I would ever have considered Dauntless, I love her selflessness and her spirit! Twitter @JenLovejoy1
ReplyDeleteMy favorite badass character would be Katniss Everdeen.
ReplyDeleteRecently read a YA fantasy novel with a badass heroine named Briana Mathias from the book called The Paladin by J.M. Storin! :) I loved Briana, and cannot wait for the 2nd book!
ReplyDeleteCelaena Sardothien from Throne of Glass comes to mind. Morpheus from The Sandman does, as well. Both of them possess a single-minded determination that I just adore.
ReplyDeleteVetinari from Pratchett's discworld. Running the biggest city, handling enemies, never lost for words, ... Love him!
ReplyDeleteThere is so many really awesome badass characters but one of my more recent favorites is Mare from Red Queen

One of my favorite kick-ass characters is Samuel Johnson from the Samuel Johnson series by John Connolly. He's just a human pre-teen boy fighting against demons and the underworld. With the help of his faithful dachshund he always prevails.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite kickass character at the moment is Lily Proctor from Trial by Fire.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite badass character would have to be Agatha from the School for Good and Evil.
ReplyDeleteHermione Granger, hands down. (Granted I may be unduly influenced by "Hermione Granger versus the Patriarchy", or whatever that blog post was called, rather than by Harry Potter canon alone...)
ReplyDelete(Contact info: drop a comment on my readathon liveblog, accessible via clicking my handle. Logged-out comments are screened but I promise I'll see it.)
Hannah from The String Diaries. Even though she was scared out of her mind she fought to keep her family safe from a frightening evil!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favs. has to be Bridget Daly from The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare!
ReplyDelete(@burningmmon65 on twitter; nicoleawoods96@gmail.com)
Harry Potter is a total badass!! (I just finished reading the 1st book to my daughter today for the read a thon). If I was 10 and was faced by the scary, unicorn blood drinking evil Voldemort who everyone else is too afraid to call by his real name, AND who killed both my parents, AND who talked to me from the back of someone else's face....I think I would pee my pants. Oh no, not Harry....because he's a badass!!
ReplyDeleteI linked mine (I chose Alanna or Keladry from Tamora Pierce's books)! My social media links are at the bottom of my blog post, but in case you need email, ctmorrison36@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI second Rose and Sarah from The Regional Office is Under Attack!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite badass character at the moment is Adelina from the Young Elites by Marie Lu.
ReplyDelete(contact info: @morgyngillis on twitter)
Kestrel from the winner's crime series is SUCH a badass!
ReplyDeleteTwitter: @lolainred
Luthien Tinuviel from Tolkien's works. Falls in love with mortal man, doesn't angst about her immortality. Her dad freaks out about it and locks her in a tower? She makes a rope and climbs out. Hears her love has been captured by freaking Sauron? Goes to his island with a massive hunting hound and takes him down. Needs to get a magic jewel from the most power/evil god in the world? Walks right up to him and dances in order to put him mistake to let Beren talk the jewel. Beren dies? Fades from grief and marches right up to the lord of the dead and convinces him to let them both walk out and be living again. Hears she's going to be mortal now? Is cool with it.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most badass character Tolkien ever wrote.
There are so many kickass characters, but one that first comes to mind at the moment is Ellie from Tomorrow When The War Began - she's not afraid to fight to save her community and country, and she's such a great Aussie female lead, which I love to see in YA being Aussie myself :)
ReplyDeleteHermione Granger. No contest.
ReplyDeleteFrom today's reads: Stella from Stella by starlight
ReplyDeleteIn general: karou and zuzanna from the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy. Zuzanna is my spirit animal. ❤️
My favorite kick-ass character is Stephanie Plum, because she gets into trouble but always gets out and with lots of humor.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite is Katniss Everdeen; reluctant heroine, ignorant for so long of her own badassery.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Roland, from The Dark Tower series; calm under pressure, survivor, fighter.
Twitter: @bextraordinaryu
Blog: https://extraordinaryordinaryeveryday.wordpress.com
My favourite is Kyoko Mogami from SKIP BEAT!. She's fierce, full of guts, and utterly unwilling to lose to anyone. Once she's set her sights on a goal, that's it. She's on a mission. Plus she can summon vast reserves of strength as needed, not to mention the grudge-monsters she sics on her enemies.
ReplyDeleteAlice Healy-Price from the Incryptid series by Seanan McGuire. She's a time-traveling and dimension hopping badass grandma with tattooes who has a penchant for grenades and danger!

ReplyDeleteI already post the link but just to make sure ;)
Mine is Phèdre nó Delaunay from Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series. She's definitely my all-time favorite badass!
ReplyDeleteA really kickass charecter from one of the books I've read so far today is Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1351069081 Nina from Six of Crows!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite badass character would be Katniss Everdeen.
ReplyDeleteBreq from Ancillary Justice. Having learnt to distinguish right from wrong at such high a cost, she will keep going no matter how broken she is.
ReplyDeleteKaladin from The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
ReplyDeleteKaladin from The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy! ;) :) Happy readathon!
ReplyDeleteOffred from Margaret Atwood's, The Handmaid's Tale takes some pretty serious risks just to have some sense of self.
ReplyDeleteJo March - Little Women
ReplyDeleteJane Eyre - Jane Eyre
Idgie Threadgoode - Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
Ronia - Ronia the Robber's Daughter
Marian Halcombe - The Woman in White
I am shamelessly in love with Celaena from the Throne of Glass series! I love her spunk and personality and resilience (not to mention her love interests), and the way Maas writes her character. The series is wonderful and I'm looking forward to re-reading it all again come September when Empire of Storms is released!
ReplyDeleteEve Dallas from the In Death series by JD Robb (homicide cop)
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading one of the newer books in the series for the readathon. Dallas can really kick some a**!

ReplyDeletehttp://fictionstateofmind.blogspot.com/2016/04/24-hour-readathon-mini-challenge.html
Yeine Darr from the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin. She comes from a matriarchal society but is made, by various forces, to try to take power in a more "traditional" society that she isn't familiar with. She had normal emotions and knows she's in over her head but is still willing to do everything she can to improve the situation. Just awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got a nap in! I'm rubbish when it comes to taking naps. I woke up at 6 to give myself an hour before readathon started, and now I'm fading. We'll see how this goes.
ReplyDeleteAs to your question, let's go with Paige Mahoney from The Bone Season series. She's stubborn as hell and a total badass. I'm sure I could think of loads more, but my brain is fading out.
so many! i will go with katniss everdeen for mine . Hermione granger a close second

ReplyDeleteI got many but for today it is Harley Quinn. I like people who recover from trauma and come out being a badass.https://twitter.com/fallingwings
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go with two badass ladies created by Charles Dickens: Miss Pross from A Tale of Two Cities and Betsy Trotwood from David Copperfield! :)
ReplyDeleteEmma Bloom from the Peculiar Children books by Ransom Riggs
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pick one so I went for give. Here's my post. https://instagram.com/p/BEknGJpRMWu/
ReplyDeleteThank you for the challenge. This was fun.
Emma Bloom from the Peculiar Children books by Ransom Riggs
ReplyDeleteEvie of "V for Vendetta" Of course V is pretty kickass, too.
ReplyDeleteEvie of "V for Vendetta" Of course V is pretty kickass, too.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites is Alanna the Lionness from Tamora Pierce's Song of Lionness quartet!!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading two books that feature kickass ladies.
ReplyDeleteMeira, from Snow Likes Ashes and Sophronia from Etiquette and Espionage. I really like them both. They display cunning and bravery in ways I only wish I could. (twitter ~ @heart1lly_)
Beth from the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. Because, you know, she deals with the brotherhood!! :D
ReplyDeleteireneejensen @ hotmail.com
Can I list everybody in Rat Queens? Does that count? If not, I'll choose Violet.
ReplyDeleteFor women: Lara Croft (graphic novels)--so feminine and yet amazingly strong. Next I like Vanessa Michael Monroe from the novels by Taylor Stevens. She has put a difficult past behind her (well, somewhat) and turned her struggles into strengths.
ReplyDeleteFor men: Detective Bosch from the novels by Michael Connelly. He has his own demons, but he fights them and stays honorable and true. He is a great cop.
Alicia (aka Lish) from The Passage. She was a WARRIOR!
ReplyDelete@why_dee_7
I love this Mini-Challenge because it’s all about badass characters. I love characters that inspire. That make an impression. That are stronger then they themselfse usually think. It’s been a while since I’ve read about a character like that (not during the readathon so far, unfortunately). That’s why I’ve chosen the character from another recent read: Aysel from My heart and other black holes by Jasmine Warga.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I admire her so much while she’s not forced to fight to the death in some arena or single handedly fighting of an alien race she has a much crueller enemy: depression. She’s down to the point were she doesn’t even have the will to live, but as the story progresses she faces her past and learns not to be defined by it anymore. So inspiring!
My favorite kickass character is definitely Claire Beauchamp Randal from Outlander. She's awesome in both the books and TV series. Definitely one of my favorite characters ever.

The first one that came to my mind was Puck from The Scorpio Races. Brave, tough, unconventional, and ultimately accepting of others.
ReplyDeleteMy badass Character will always be Neville longbottom! Everything he did was really brave and honorable. Especially that he always stood up to help his friends ❤

ReplyDeleteElizabeth Bennet - you say no to that carriage, girl!
ReplyDeleteQueen Elisa from Rae Carson's The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy is my definition of a badass character. She grows so much in the trilogy but she is always determined to do the right thing, protect people, and be a badass ruling queen! She listens to advice but she always makes the choice she thinks is right, and she doesn't let fear convince her to back down.
ReplyDeleteI think for a kickass character I would have to go classic and go with Hermione from Harry Potter for some obvious reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe title character from A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. From a great opening Sunday School scene to an incredible, INCREDIBLE ending that one will never forget, that little guy is completely kickass.
ReplyDeleteIt simply has to be Granny Weatherwax from the Discworld series by Sir Terry Pratchett. This is a woman who threatens to break the arm of Death himself, who gets bitten by vampires and they become like her, who beats the most powerful wizard in the world in a flat out duel, whose name in Dwarfish and the language of the Trolls means "she who must be avoided" and "go around the other side of the mountain", and who uses her brain to solve the problems she faces.
ReplyDeleteThis exceptionally bad ass witch is essentially the love child of Miss Trunchbull and Professor McGonagall and has all of the strength of character of both
The character that immediately springs to my mind is Aerin from Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown. She literally slays dragons but is completely matter-of-fact about it. A lot of times, I find strong characters to be really annoying, like they're trying to prove something to the world by yelling about how strong they are. But Aerin is very undemonstrative; she just sees that the dragons are a problem and does her best to protect her people.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with Adelina Amouteru, from Marie Lu's "The Young Elites". She's dark, she's powerful and she owns it. I think she's the one character in all of the books that I've ever read that makes me root for the dark side!
ReplyDelete-Treavor G.
@FictionForesigh
My favourite badass character is Laurent from the Captive Prince Trilogy. He goes through so much trauma as a child and still is being tormented as an adult through various events and people near him, but he still just tries to do what he thinks is best for his country. Also, he's ridiculously intelligent and strategic in war and politics. My beautiful gay cinnamon roll.
ReplyDeleteI chose for Vivian Apple, from Vivian Apple at the End of the world. She is badass in my eyes, because in the end she would do what she wanted to do, overcoming her fear and fighting for the people she loved most.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite badass character from this readathon will have to be Megan from Calamity, the 3rd book in the Reckoners' trilogy by Brandon Sanderson although David is pretty badass himself, only in a nerdier way :P
ReplyDeleteTwitter: @twilightr27
Instagram: NotSoMundane
It has to be Hermione. She's a badass with her brains and her bravery.
ReplyDeleteBut there's also Jessica Jones from my favorite comic, Alias. She's a badass because she's been through it, she's been beaten and abused and she still comes through for those in need.
The biggest badass from my stack today was Anda, from In Real Life by Cory Doctorow. She could game like a mofo and fought for the underdog.
That has to be Hermione from "Harry Potter". She's just so awesome and really kick-ass! :)

Myrnin from the Morganville Vampire series. He's kind of cute and adorable but a complete badass underneath it all 😝
ReplyDeleteContact: http://katiejennybean.tumblr.com
Cara Lindstrom from in Alexandra Sokoloff' s FBI/Huntress series! She's a Ninja like serial killer who gets rid of bad men when law enforcement can't!
ReplyDeleteHttps://worthgettinginbedfor.wordpress.com
Cordelia from Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series. There is no one more baddass than she is in the second book of the series.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite badass character is a guy called Diran Bastian from the Blade of the Flame trilogy by Tim Waggoner. He's a former demon-possessed assassin who got the demon exorcised and then turned into a priest for the faith known as The Silver Flame. He wields daggers with extraordinary skill (and has an arsenal for just about any situation/creature), is supremely perceptive and intelligent, and abides by his own ethics, which includes always being ready to die for his friends. He's a super badass with charm and sass.

DeleteI posted here earlier but I don't see my comment so hopefully I'm not too late and hopefully it'll come through this time because I just finished a book with a REALLY kick ass character!
ReplyDelete#1 - most recently read....Salem from "Rowdy" by Jay Crownover. This girl is a kick ass bad ass. She's got tattoos, piercings, rocks the high heels, and she's smart and has a big heart to boot. This girl was just such an all around kick ass character, I truly enjoyed every minute of her.
#2 - currently kick ass read...Piper from "Orange is the New Black" by Piper Kerman. Piper kicks ass because, holy moly, if I ever landed in prison I would be a wreck. I don't think I could survive but Piper did it and she's amazing. Seriously.
And my #3 - an all time kick ass character...Katniss Everdeen. I know she has become such a cliche, but I seriously love and admire this series so much. I just think that there are so many subtle possibilities that could someday happen in our society and we need to take strength from the characters in this series. I think Katniss is strong and smart, even when she doesn't know how to be and I just love that about her.
So there's my two cents. Happy reading everyone. And thanks for hosting this mini-challenge for us!! :D
I know I'm too late, but when I saw this challenge I just HAD to pick three of MY favorite kickass characters. You can find them on my Tumblr:
ReplyDeletehttp://reader44ever.tumblr.com/post/143311395292/i-know-i-missed-the-deadline-for-the-hour-18
:-)
Eve Dallas from the In Death series. She's a lieutenant in a future New York and is always in the thick of it, she's also always risking injury or her life to protect people.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite bbadass character which I am reading about this readathon is Silk! The newest Spider-Woman, she doesn't have many supporters but acts like the perfect millennial and the reactions towards her are the same!
ReplyDeleteAlso my twitter is @0aki with zero
DeleteUo from Fruits Basket
ReplyDeleteFaith from Faith
Harley Quinn from Harley Quinn Hot in the City
No explanations because 1 minute left in Hour 24!
