#SmashYourStack: Read Your Own Books in May 2016

Welcome, one and all, to another event! Melissa and I have been talking about doing some sort of "read your own books" event together for months, and we're finally pulling the trigger!

Smash Your Stack asks you to read your own books in May 2016. How you choose to do that is really up to you. Consider some options:

  • Set a percentage of your own books to read for the month.
  • Pick a number!
  • Go hard and read ALL your own books!
The options are really endless, flexible, and totally up to you, but we want to hear about it whether you hashtag #SmashYourStack or link up your progress and intentions down below.

If you're doing #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks and floundering a bit, this might be a kickstart! I know that's the way I'll be using it.

My goal is to read ALL my own books in May, with the exception of a couple of review books on my calendar (I think literally two). The Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon definitely gave me a reading and blogging boost, so I hope I can get through quite a few books in May.

We hope you'll join us!

  1. Definitely in! I'm aiming for 15 of my own books. And I really need to learn to say NO to review copies. They just keep coming! 15 might be a lot since I have to turn in my bachelors project in May as well, but I really need this!

    1. Go Irene! 15 is a really good number though it would be challenging for me (without graphic novels). lol

  2. This sounds fabulous. Must do some calculations and be back with numbers. Can't read them all, but there are quite a number that I keep passing on my shelves that make me always think...I really need to get that read!

  3. I'm so in! I need this, because trying to stick to reading my own damn books has not been easy. I'm hoping that this new challenge will be the kick start I need to stick with my own books. I need to figure out the numbers, especially as I have already to agreed to read some ARCs for review. I'm excited about this - thanks!

    1. Glad you're joining in, Nadia! I need to get back on track, and I really WANT to, so this should help me as well.

  4. Oooh, this is very tempting, Andi; can I just buy a couple of more before the beginning of May? And then they'll be my own books? HAHAHA! I actually don't have many books of my own that I've not already read, but I love this idea.

    1. Hahaha, spoken like a true bibliophile! I'm pretty envious that you don't have many unread books! I'm working on getting to that point.

  5. Signed up! You know I really need this. SO MANY FUCKING UNREAD BOOKS, the eternal struggle.

    1. The eternal struggle is right! I cannot wait until I whittle my TBR down further and I can just go out to the library or download whatever I want to read right then. Like, full-on free range reading!

  6. Good luck to everyone! I'm just hoping to keep my ratio of one-to-one going!

  7. Definitely need to count myself in on this one! I started out so strong in January but have REALLY fallen off the reading my own book bandwagon since then -- whoooops!

  8. OMG, I just tried to count my unread Kindle books, and um...I stopped at 100? And I was only through authors with last names starting with "O"?? And that's just eBooks?!? o.0 So yeah, I think I'm due to participate here. :p

  10. I did the TBR Triple Dog Dare for the first time this year and it really helped me in reading my own damn books so I'm going to take this on! I'll aim for half of my books to be from my pre-2016 TBR (as I know I've got a couple of things coming my way this month that I'll need to get to.)

    Thanks for the inspiration!!

  11. I'm going for ten books as well. I may be setting myself to high because I've never done this before. But I'm giving this a shot.

  12. I wish I had the time this month to come up with a wonderful big number for this event, but as it is, I'll be modest and would be content if I managed to read 5 of my own books in May. Then I would only have about 500 unread books left. ;)

  13. Hooray for this power-packed jolt of inspiration! Gotta admit I haven't exactly been kicking butt with #readmyowndamnbooks, but if I can come through on this, hopefully I'll be largely back on track.

  14. Definitely the kick in the butt I need!

  15. Gonna try three books since I came in late. Not even sure if I can make that lol.

  16. I'm late to join in too, but my goal is 5 books this month. While this technically should be doable, I've learned that the library (and bookstores) can be far too tempting.
